OPEN CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Fraud & Compliance Analyst

Description

At Chexy, we're reshaping how money moves — making payments smarter, faster, and more rewarding. We started by being the first in Canada to let people pay their biggest bills with credit cards and earn rewards on money they had to spend anyway. Now we're building a super app that acts as your money co-pilot. We're a high-growth fintech startup looking for hungry, ambitious people who want to help us scale.

The Role

We're hiring a Fraud & Compliance Analyst to build out Chexy's fraud and compliance function, with a growing focus on credit card fraud and dispute handling. This is a full-time, onsite role (5 days a week) at our Toronto office.
You'll split time across two pillars:

  1. Fraud & Compliance Operations
  2. Credit Card Fraud & Dispute Management

Key Responsibilities

Fraud & Compliance Operations

  • Data-Driven Monitoring: conduct daily reviews of user accounts and payment transactions, using basic SQL to pull custom reports and identify suspicious patterns like identity theft or account takeovers before they escalate
  • The Investigative Deep-Dive: lead investigations into flagged activity, document findings, and build the case files that keep our ecosystem clean
  • Compliance Analytics: assist in preparing and submitting Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) to FINTRAC, using data visualization to track compliance health and reporting timelines
  • Workflow Optimization: identify manual bottlenecks in our KYC/AML processes and suggest data-driven improvements
  • Risk Support: assist with risk assessment for Chexy's mortgage and other financial products, evaluating a mix of credit bureau data (Equifax/TransUnion) and alternative data (bank statements, income documentation) to support payment risk decisions

Credit Card Fraud & Dispute Management

  • Monitor card-not-present fraud, card testing/BIN attacks, and account takeover attempts across Chexy's card processing rails
  • Lead chargeback dispute: build evidence-based rebuttal cases using card network reason codes (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) and 3DS liability-shift arguments
  • Track dispute win/loss patterns and reason-code trends to refine rebuttal strategy over time

Qualifications

  • Experience: 1–3 years in AML/ATF compliance, fraud detection, or financial investigations
  • Card Fraud Experience (required): hands-on experience with credit card fraud, chargebacks/disputes, or card network dispute processes (Visa, Mastercard, Amex reason codes)
  • Analytical Toolkit: working knowledge of SQL to query databases and extract transaction data; advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and Macros) is a must
  • Financial Risk Analysis (asset): experience evaluating creditworthiness or financial risk using bureau data (Equifax/TransUnion) and/or alternative data (bank statements, income documentation) — relevant to supporting risk assessment across Chexy's financial products
  • Regulatory Fluency: a solid grasp of KYC/AML requirements and FINTRAC standards
  • Communication: ability to translate complex data findings into clear, actionable reports for senior leadership

Why Join Chexy?

  • Room to Grow: as Chexy expands, you'll have real ownership over how the fraud & compliance function evolves — including exposure to new risk-analysis work as the business grows

  • Strategic Impact: play a direct role in protecting the company's bottom line by developing the logic that prevents financial loss and manages revenue recovery
  • Innovation-First Culture: work in an environment that prioritizes automation and modern data stacks (GCP/Python) over manual entry
  • The "Chexy" Edge: we treat fraud detection like a high-stakes strategy game — if you have the competitive spirit to stay one step ahead of the "gamers" and bad actors, you'll find your tribe here
