OPEN CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Director, Growth Marketing

Description

About Chexy

At Chexy, we're building modern financial tools for Canadians, starting with their largest expenses. We turned rent, mortgages, tuition, insurance and other big bills into opportunities to earn rewards, improve cash flow and get more from money they already have to spend.

We're the first platform in Canada that lets people pay nearly any bill with a credit card while unlocking cashback, points and financial flexibility. Billions in payments move through Chexy, our customer base is growing fast, and we've just relaunched the brand. Over the next 12 months we launch several new products, starting with our first credit card in Q1 2027.

We're backed by Khosla Ventures, Crossbeam Venture Partners and Venrex, and we partner with Aeroplan and other leading Canadian financial and telecom brands.

About the role

Chexy is hiring a Director, Growth Marketing to own how new customers find Chexy and how efficiently we acquire them. You report to the CMO and own paid acquisition end to end: budget and channel mix, creative testing, landing page conversion and measurement. One person reports to you, a Manager (or Senior Associate), Growth, who tests new channels under your direction.

This is a performance seat first. Roughly two thirds of what you've done should be paid media: owning real budgets across Meta, Google, TikTok, YouTube and affiliate, and moving CAC and payback. The other third is the wider growth toolkit: referral mechanics, contests, creators, partnerships as a channel, and the unconventional tests a challenger brand needs.

You run on agents. Bidding is platform automation, and the production and reporting work is done by agents you build. Your job is allocation, the testing cadence, deciding what to believe, and where the next dollar goes. We currently work with an agency on paid execution; you decide what stays with them and what comes in-house.

We care about taste, speed and results.

What you'll own

Paid acquisition
  • The paid budget across Meta, Google, TikTok, YouTube, affiliate and whatever comes next: channel mix, pacing, and the case for every dollar
  • CAC and payback by channel and by customer segment (renters, homeowners, Gen Z, newcomers)
  • Landing page conversion, with the Senior Brand Designer: what gets tested, what ships
Creative testing
  • A weekly creative testing cadence: briefs, hooks, formats, what gets killed and what scales
  • The creative pipeline with the designer and agents: volume from agents, selection by humans
Measurement
  • Incrementality and holdout tests, and a view of what actually drives signups rather than what the platforms claim
  • The weekly growth read to the CMO: what worked, what didn't, what's next
New channels and experiments
  • A pipeline of tests on channels we don't run yet, executed by your Manager, Growth: referral mechanics, creators, contests, partnership activations, community, offline
  • Fast kills and fast scaling
Agency and agents
  • The agency relationship: scope, what stays with them, what comes in-house, and when
  • Your own agents: reporting, anomaly detection, creative fatigue flags, search query mining, budget and bid recommendations
Compliance
  • Every claim in paid gets reviewed. You build the rulebook so review takes hours, not weeks

What success looks like

Twelve months in:
  • Blended CAC and payback are at or better than plan, with incrementality tests behind the numbers rather than platform-reported attribution
  • Paid signups activate at the rate the plan assumes; you and the lifecycle lead share the 30-day activation number
  • At least one new channel has gone from test to a meaningful share of signups, and the losers were killed within weeks
  • Landing page conversion is up measurably, with a test shipping every week
  • The agency's scope is deliberately smaller or gone, and in-house output is higher
  • Your Manager, Growth runs a test pipeline you would trust unsupervised for a week
  • Agents produce the weekly reporting and most of the creative variants; your time goes to decisions

What we're looking for

  • 6+ years in growth or performance marketing, in-house at a consumer app, fintech, telco or subscription business, with roughly 60 to 70% of that time owning paid media
  • You have owned a meaningful paid budget end to end and can show what happened to CAC and payback while you held it
  • You have run growth beyond paid: referral, creators, contests, partnerships or organic, with results you can point to
  • You write SQL and are comfortable in BigQuery or equivalent; you build your own automations and agents (Zapier, n8n, Python, LLM APIs) and can describe one that broke and how you fixed it
  • You have designed and run incrementality or holdout tests and changed spend because of them
  • You have managed an agency and know when to use one and when not to
  • You can lead one person without turning into a manager: you still run campaigns yourself
Strong plus: Canadian consumer market experience; a regulated or claims-sensitive category (fintech, telco, insurance); landing page CRO; French.

This probably isn't the role for you if

  • You have only ever bought media and have never run an experiment outside Meta and Google
  • You come from an agency and have never owned a number in-house
  • You want to manage a team rather than run campaigns
  • AI on your resume means using ChatGPT for ad copy
  • You need a data team to pull your numbers
  • You can't say what your last budget was or what it did

Why join Chexy?

  • Own the growth engine: one person, a real budget, no committee
  • Scale a brand that just relaunched: new creative, new products, and our first credit card in Q1 2027
  • Work the way performance marketing is going to work: agents on production and reporting, you on decisions
  • A real lever on the company: acquisition efficiency is the number the board watches
  • Work with the CMO and the founders: small team, fast decisions
  • Equity: meaningful equity in a high-growth fintech
  • Toronto office: we work in-office 5 days a week

How we hire

We keep our hiring process clear and human. You'll go through a mix of conversational interviews and practical discussions designed to show how you think, what you've built and how you work with others. Expect to walk us through a budget you owned and what happened to CAC, an incrementality test you ran and what you changed because of it, and an automation or agent you built that ran without you.

We use AI tools to help us organize and review applications; every decision about who we interview and who we hire is made by a person. This posting is for an existing vacancy. If you interview with us, we'll let you know within days of your last interview whether a decision has been made.

Chexy is an equal opportunity employer. If you require any accommodations or support during the hiring process, let us know and we'll do our best to help.
